Tecno is taking the smartphone display race in a new direction with its bezel-less concept phone, showcased at IFA 2026 in Berlin. The concept aims to create a screen with virtually no visible black border around the edges, delivering a more immersive look than conventional smartphones. After getting hands-on time with the device, it is clear that Tecno has taken an unconventional approach to make the futuristic design possible.
Tecno’s Bezel-Less Phone Makes the Screen Look Borderless
At first glance, the Tecno concept phone looks almost as if the display extends directly to the edges of the device. Unlike most current smartphones, there are no obvious black borders separating the active screen from the frame.
However, the trick is more sophisticated than simply shrinking the bezels.
Tecno has redesigned the display and cover-glass structure to hide the inactive portion of the screen. The phone uses a dual-layer cover glass, with the lower section extending around the midframe. This additional layer helps conceal the display’s inactive area and the black border that would normally be visible.
The result is a screen that looks remarkably close to a true edge-to-edge panel.
How Tecno Achieved the 0mm Bezel Effect
Getting rid of visible bezels required Tecno to rethink the phone’s internal construction.
Instead of assembling the display in the traditional direction, the company has modified the manufacturing process so the screen module can be inserted from the rear of the device. Tecno also uses a specially developed hot-melt adhesive to secure the additional cover-glass layer from the front.
These changes allow the company to hide parts of the display structure that would normally contribute to the visible bezel.
The approach does come with a trade-off. The metal frame surrounding the display feels somewhat wider than what you might expect from a conventional phone. In other words, Tecno has not simply made the entire phone’s physical frame disappear; instead, it has engineered the display and glass layers to make the bezels visually disappear.
The Borderless Display Looks Impressive in Person
The biggest advantage becomes obvious once you start using the phone.
Apps, menus and other interface elements appear to stretch right toward the edges of the display. The effect makes content feel larger and more immersive, particularly when compared with a traditional smartphone.
Tecno demonstrated the concept alongside the iPhone 17 Pro Max, which reportedly has very slim 1.36mm bezels. Even against such a narrow-bezel phone, Tecno’s concept creates a noticeably different visual impression because there is essentially no conventional black border surrounding the active screen.
For video, gaming and other full-screen content, this could eventually make smartphones feel more like a single sheet of display rather than a screen mounted inside a frame.
The Concept Still Has Some Rough Edges
Despite the impressive first impression, the Tecno bezel-less phone is still a concept device, and that shows in a few areas.
Some black sections can still be seen near the lower edges of the screen. They are much less noticeable than the bezels found on ordinary smartphones, but they demonstrate that achieving a completely seamless display remains technically challenging.
Tecno says its 0mm bezel design combines advanced internal stacking, structural changes and new screen-packaging techniques. These modifications highlight just how much engineering is required to remove something that smartphone users normally take for granted.
Touch Interaction Is Another Challenge
Removing the traditional bezel also creates a problem that is easy to overlook: where do you put your fingers?
On a regular phone, the bezel provides a small area where your fingers can naturally rest without accidentally interacting with the display. A truly edge-to-edge panel removes that physical boundary.
Tecno says it has adjusted touch sensitivity and redesigned aspects of the user interface to address this challenge. The company believes the work could eventually contribute to future flagship smartphones.
That makes the concept more interesting than a simple design experiment. If Tecno can solve the practical issues involved with a borderless display, some of the technology could potentially make its way into commercial devices.

The concept phone features a 6.78-inch AMOLED display with a 1.5K resolution and a 144Hz refresh rate.
The high refresh rate should make scrolling, animations and supported games appear smoother, while the AMOLED panel provides the deep blacks and strong contrast typically associated with this display technology.
The combination of a large panel and nearly invisible borders also contributes to the phone’s futuristic appearance.
Slim and Lightweight Design
Despite the unusual display construction, the concept phone feels relatively slim and lightweight when held.
Its design appears to share similarities with the recently introduced Tecno Camon Slim, suggesting that Tecno may be using an existing design foundation while experimenting with its new borderless display technology.
That could be significant because turning a concept into a commercial product requires more than creating an attractive prototype. The display technology also needs to work reliably inside a device that can be manufactured at scale.

Tecno has not confirmed that this exact concept phone will become a retail product. However, the company’s comments suggest that the technology could influence future flagship devices.
